On September 24, four of Indonesia’s largest palm oil players and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) signed the Indonesia Palm Oil Pledge, which commits them to work together to improve the environmental performance of the Indonesian palm oil industry. This Pledge includes industry-leading benchmarks such as proactive government engagement on policy reform and a principle of no planting on high carbon stock or peat lands. Ambassador Blake applauded this effort, echoing President Obama’s statement that the U.S. Government looks forward to working with the signatories, civil society, and the Government of Indonesia in implementing the Pledge’s ambitious commitments.
