During a meeting with Commerce Assistant Secretary Arun Kumar and PDAS Scot Marciel on April 20, Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan and Ambassador Blake signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the U.S.-Indonesia Aviation Working Group (AWG). The AWG will provide a platform for U.S. government and private sector aviation stakeholders and their Indonesian counterparts to “work together to support the safe, secure, and efficient development of Indonesia’s aviation sector by bringing U.S. technical expertise and aviation experience to Indonesia.” The MOU mentions that the AWG’s activities will focus on policy and technical issues facing the Indonesian aviation sector, including: Air Traffic Management Modernization, Airport Infrastructure, Aviation Safety and Security, Development and Growth of Aviation Support Services, Airspace and Airport Capacity Analysis, Development, and Planning, General Aviation Access and Integration, Cargo Security. The U.S. and Indonesia are working on follow up activities under the MOU.
