During his recent visit to Papua from March 8-11, Ambassador Donovan met with the Governor of Papua, the Acting Governor of West Papua, the Mayor of Sorong, and the Regent of Raja Ampat. He discussed education with students and faculty at the University of Muhammadiyah in Sorong and promotion of tolerance and diversity with religious leaders and members of civil society. Ambassador Donovan’s visit strengthened the US-Indonesia Strategic Partnership in Papua in several areas. The Ambassdor visited USAID projects providing enhanced support for Indonesia’s unique marine resources and ecosystems, sustainable agricultural programs, efforts to prevent gender-based violence, and forest management and conservation of biodiversity.
