American documentary filmmaker Richard Pearce, and co-director of the American Film Showcase, Alan Baker, visited Malang, East Java for 2 days of intensive filmmaking workshops and film screenings February 2-4. Film students from Universitas Muhamadiyah Malang participated in the 2 day workshop with Mr. Pearce making short documentary films and Mr. Baker and PAO Veveiros led several film screenings and discussions of American documentaries with university and high school students.
The American Film Showcase is a cooperative project between the University of Southern California and the State Department to bring films that portray American civil society, the empowerment of women and people with disabilities, and compelling personal stories to audiences around the world.
