Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce visited Jakarta, Indonesia from June 16-19, 2019 to meet with Indonesian exchange alumni and educational counterparts to discuss future two-way exchange opportunities between the U.S. and Indonesia. She discussed strategies for increasing student mobility between the U.S. and Indonesia and expanding educational and cultural exchanges, and reaffirmed the importance of people-to-people ties between the U.S. and Indonesia. In Jakarta, Assistant Secretary Royce visited cultural and historic sites, @america, the U.S. Embassy’s American Center, and met with exchange alumni as well as representatives of the Indonesian ministries of Research, Technology and Higher Education and Finance. She opened a conference titled “Indo-Pacific Pathways to Cooperation,” celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program. At a reception hosted by the Embassy to celebrate 70 years of U.S.-Indonesia educational and cultural exchanges, Assistant Secretary Royce called for expanding partnerships that strengthen two-way student exchanges between the United States and Indonesia.
