The hip hop group Very Necessary visited Makassar on their first leg of a multi city Indonesia visit to promote hip hop music and cultural exchange, as U.S. cultural ambassadors. The band performed at Hasanuddin University and a religious boarding school, as well as making an appearance on both live TV and radio in Makassar.

The all Muslim member band told local audiences that their music tries to break stereotypes about the hip hop musical genre and that Islamic messages are infused in their lyrics. Their appearances drew positive press coverage. Their visit coincided with a nationwide Mission-supported blood drive coordinated with NGO Blood for Nation and the Indonesian Red Cross.
