Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program

The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program is celebrating its 15th anniversary in Indonesia!

YES is a merit-based scholarship for high school students aged 15-17 to spend one academic year in the United States living with an American host family, attending high school, acquiring leadership skills, and helping educate Americans about their home country and culture.

The YES scholarship was created by United States Senators Kennedy and Lugar in the months following September 11, 2011 to bring together young people from countries with significant Muslim populations, including Indonesia, to the United States. At the same time, the YES Abroad program was created to give high school students from the United States the opportunity to live and study in Muslim-majority countries as well. Each year, American high school students come to Indonesia to spend a year living with a host family and attending Sekolah Menengah Atas.
