Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program

The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program is Now Open for Applications!

YES is a merit-based scholarship for high school students aged 15-17 to spend one academic year in the United States living with an American host family, attending high school, acquiring leadership skills, and helping educate Americans about their home country and culture.

The YES scholarship was created by United States Senators Kennedy and Lugar in the months following September 11, 2001 to bring together young people from countries with significant Muslim populations, including Indonesia, to the United States and to fund U.S. high school students on exchanges living and studying in Muslim-majority countries as well.

Each year, U.S. teenagers come to Indonesia on YES Abroad scholars to live with Indonesian host families and study in Indonesian high schools.

The Youth Exchange Program (YES), the one-year exchange Program for high school students in Indonesia, is open for recruitment from March 4 to March 31, 2019.

 Basic requirements

  1. High School student in Indonesia, 10th grade (SMA/ SMK/ MA/ sederajat)
  2. Age:  15 – 16 years old (born between 01 January 2003 – 01 August 2004)
  3. Indonesian Citizens (not a US passport holder, was not born in the US, one parent is not American citizen)
