The United States of America has been represented in Sumatra and maintained a consulate in the city of Medan from Indonesia’s independence in 1949.
U.S. Consulate Medan serves a consular district of 55 million Indonesians in 10 provinces including Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, Riau, Bangka Belitung, Jambi, and Riau Islands.
The Consulate is located in Medan, the largest city on Sumatra.
