Bernard Uadan is the Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Medan Indonesia since August 2023. Bernard has previously served as a consular officer in Guangzhou, China, Seoul, South Korea, Tokyo, Japan, Kabul, Afghanistan, and Okinawa Japan. Most recently, Bernard worked in Skopje, North Macedonia as the Consular Section Chief. Prior to joining the Department of State, Bernard earned a bachelor’s degree in East Asian Languages and Literature with a concentration in Japanese from the University of Florida. Bernard spent a year abroad as an exchange student and a recipient of Monbusho Scholarship at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan from 1996 to 1997. Bernard studied Cultural Anthropology as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Kyushu in Fukuoka, Japan from 1998 to 1999. Bernard is accompanied in Medan by his wife, Yukiko Yamashita, who is a native of Fukuoka, Japan.
