Getting Geeky for Good: Promoting Coding, STEM Among Young Women and Community Leaders

On March 27, the Embassy in Jakarta teamed up with with Microsoft Indonesia to host more than 50 young women and community leaders for We Speak Code, a fun, user-friendly workshop on coding.  Participants included alumni of U.S. Government-funded exchange programs and accomplished community leaders from the publishing, NGO, and business worlds, brought together at the home of Deputy Chief of Mission Kristen Bauer for an introduction to this now essential STEM-related skill.  This public-private partnership helped to increased collaborative partnerships in technology and strengthened people-to-people ties among activists and entrepreneurs, particularly among women who are traditionally underrepresented in Indonesia’s technology sector.
