Health Alert (COVID-19 Weekly Update) – U.S. Embassy Jakarta

ALERT - Health Alert (State Dept.)

Health Alert (COVID-19 Weekly Update) – U.S. Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia, July 27, 2020

Location:  Indonesia

Event:  As of July 27, 2020, the Indonesian Ministry of Health has confirmed 98,778 cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Large-Scale Social Movement Restrictions (PSBB) and other measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 remain in many areas of the country.  While some cities, including Jakarta, have relaxed some of these restrictions and have reopened some public spaces, U.S. citizens are advised to be aware of and comply with any local regulations in force.

Indonesian Immigration has announced new guidance for foreign nationals who arrived on the “visa-free” or “visa-on-arrival” mechanisms and whose visas have expired.  In most cases, foreigners who arrived on these mechanisms will be required to depart the country by August 11.  U.S. citizens with questions about the policy should contact their local Immigration office for additional information.   Note that U.S. Embassy Jakarta, Consulate General Surabaya, Consulate Medan, and Consular Agency Bali may not intervene in immigration matters and will not provide letters of support to U.S. citizens seeking immigration benefits.

Domestic flights are operating subject to certain restrictions.  Those seeking to board domestic flights must produce a test result indicating they are COVID-19 free.  Travelers should contact the airline to confirm that they have met all requirements for domestic travel.

International commercial flight options remain available from Indonesia at reduced levels.  Under the Global Level 4 Health Advisory, the U.S. government strongly advises U.S. citizens to arrange for immediate return to the United States.

Our most current information indicates that there are approximately 50 flights over the next week by which U.S. citizens can return from Indonesia to the United States operated by ANA, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines, Korean Air, Garuda Indonesia, Asiana Airlines.  Be advised that flight cancellations are common, and travelers should regularly check with their airline ahead of scheduled departures.

U.S. citizens should consider booking flights to major points of entry into the United States and then arrange for further domestic travel upon arrival.  For verified information about the COVID-19 situation in other countries, please visit: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/COVID-19-Country-Specific-Information.html.

On March 25, the U.S. Department of State ordered the departure of employee family members under the age of 21 from Embassy Jakarta, the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, Consulate General Surabaya, and Consulate Medan.  U.S. Embassy Jakarta, the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, U.S. Consulate General Surabaya, Consulate Medan, and our Consular Agency in Bali remain open for mission-critical functions only.  Emergency services for U.S. citizens remain available.

We strongly encourage U.S. citizens, whenever they travel abroad, to enroll their travel plans through STEP, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program: https://step.state.gov/step/.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has set up an information hotline regarding the potential for COVID-19 in Indonesia.  Check their website (www.kemkes.go.id/) or call +62-21-5210411 or +62-82-12123119.
