Health Alert (COVID-19 Weekly Update) – U.S. Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia, June 29, 2020
Location: Indonesia
Event: As of June 29, 2020, the Indonesian Ministry of Health has confirmed 54,010 cases of COVID-19 in the country.
Large-Scale Social Movement Restrictions (PSBB) and other measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 remain in many areas of the country. While some cities, including Jakarta, have relaxed some of these restrictions and have reopened some public spaces, U.S. citizens are advised to be aware of and comply with any local regulations in force.
Domestic flights are operating subject to certain restrictions. Those seeking to board domestic flights must produce a test result indicating they are COVID-19 free. Please contact your airline for the type of test and duration of validity required. In some cases, airlines are also requiring a travel endorsement letter from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry which allows foreigners to board domestic flights (U.S. citizens may obtain this letter by emailing JakartaACS@state.gov). Travelers should be aware that these requirements may change suddenly and are encouraged to contact the airline to confirm that they have met all requirements for domestic travel.
International commercial flight options remain available from Indonesia albeit at significantly reduced levels. U.S. citizens seeking to depart Indonesia should make their own travel arrangements as soon as practicable unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an extended period.
Our most current information indicates that there are 38 flights over the next week by which U.S. citizens can return from Indonesia to the United States operated by ANA, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Garuda Indonesia, Asiana Airlines:
- 34 from Jakarta (6 via Tokyo, 7 via Doha, 5 via Hong Kong, 7 via Seoul, 1 via Dubai, 5 via Abu Dhabi, 1 via Istanbul and 2 via Amsterdam)
- 4 from Bali (via Doha)
Garuda international flights require passengers to submit the COVID-19 free certificate valid for 7 days after issuance.
The U.S. government does not anticipate arranging repatriation flights from Indonesia at this time. Under the Global Level 4 Health Advisory, we strongly advise U.S. citizens to arrange for immediate return to the United States while there is still an opportunity.
U.S. citizens should consider booking flights to major points of entry into the United States and then arrange for further domestic travel upon arrival.
