Planning a Study in the United States Made Easy: A New EducationUSA Advising Center Opens at American Corner UNAIR

SURABAYA — On November 8, 2019, United States Consul General in Surabaya, Mark McGovern, and Vice Rector of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Prof. Dr. Djoko Santoso, Ph.D D,K0GH., FINASIM,  opened a new EducationUSA advising center at the American Corner located in the Library of UNAIR Campus B.

“The new the EducationUSA advising center at the American Corner UNAIR will further empower Indonesian students to peruse their aspirations to gain world class education and help them realize their potential as future leaders of Indonesia and the world.” said U.S. Consul General McGovern.

EducationUSA is an education advising service supported by the U.S. Department of State to provide unbiased, accurate, and comprehensive information about studying in the United States.  EducationUSA neutrally represents all accredited institutions of higher learning and their services are free of charge. In addition to the new center at UNAIR, there are EducationUSA advising centers at the U.S. Consulate General Surabaya, as well as in Aceh, Jakarta, Makassar, Medan, and Malang. Many of EducationUSA advisers are U.S. university alumni who can help Indonesian student to find the appropriate school to accomplish their goals.

“The U.S. is credited with producing the world’s most innovative and entrepreneurial graduates. There are currently more than 9,000 Indonesians studying in the United States spread across 4,700 accredited higher education institutions.  In addition to building greater understanding between our two nations, the skills and connections these students bring back from the United States allow them to start businesses, support their government, and strengthen their communities in Indonesia. ” explained U.S. Consul General McGovern.

In addition to EducationUSA Advisers, participants of the new EducationUSA center opening had an opportunity to engage with the officers and staff of the U.S. Consulate in Surabaya and learn about  the U.S. Department of State education and cultural exchange programs,  such as the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) and Fulbright scholarships.
