Susan and I extend our warmest wishes to Muslims around the world who are celebrating Eid al-Adha – from our friends and allies to our Muslim colleagues across the State Department. Eid al-Adha marks the end of the Hajj, in which millions of Muslims from around the world make the pilgrimage to Mecca and reflect upon the sacrifice and commitment to God made by Abraham. It is a celebration of gift giving, charity, and fellowship.
The Hajj is also a reminder of our shared commitment to uphold the right of all individuals to freely pursue religious observances. For the millions of Hajj travelers returning home, including thousands of Americans, I wish you safe travels. Eid Mubarak.
