Jakarta — On January 6, 2015, Bidart Bros. voluntarily recalled Granny Smith and Gala apples because environmental testing revealed contamination with Listeria monocytogenes at the firm’s apple packing facility in California. The U.S. provided this information to the Government of Indonesia shortly thereafter. At this time any illnesses associated with the Bidart Bros. product have only been linked to caramel apples.
The growing season for these types of apples has ended and the last shipment from Bidart Bros. was on December 2, 2014. Apples from other growers in the United States are not affected by this recall. We will continue to provide all necessary information to the Government of Indonesia in support of their efforts to protect public health.
