On the evening of January 21, @america hosted “Sustainable Success: How Businesses Are Profiting from Environmentally Sustainable Practices.” This program highlighted best management practices of U.S. companies in Indonesia who have taken a leadership role in making investments that both improve the bottom line and have social and environmental benefits. Charge d’Affaires Kristen Bauer gave welcoming remarks, followed by presentations from U.S. companies Mars, KKR, East Bali Cashews, Cargill, and Chevron representing sustainable U.S. investments in the cocoa, cashews, palm oil, and geothermal sectors. This ensuing discussion illustrated the positive impact of U.S. investment in Indonesia, particularly in small communities where these complementary goals are creating significant social benefits such as improved education, health awareness, and more productive livelihoods.
