Weather Alert – U. S. Consulate General Surabaya, Indonesia (09 February 2023)
Location: Mount Karangetang, Siau Island, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, Indonesia
Event: Volcanic lava flow and increased seismic activity from the active volcano Mount Karangetang. Indonesian authorities have increased the alert level in this area to level 3 on a four-point warning scale with 4 being the highest level. Authorities have urged all people in the surrounding communities to avoid travel within 1.6 miles of the volcano’s summit and to remain vigilant of further volcanic activity.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid travel within the immediate area of Mount Karangetang.
- If you live or are traveling within Siau Island, monitor local media for updates.
- In the event of major volcanic activity, notify friends and family of your safety.
